BISE form submission date
Lahore, Dec 31: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore has extended the
date of form submission for the Supplementary Examination (Matriculation) till
January 6, 2012. Chairman of Lahore Board Dr Allah Baksh has extended
the date of form submission for three days with single fee which was scheduled
to be ended on January 3 but now would end on January 6, 2012. He said the
chairman took this decision keeping in view the inconvenience of the students
belonging to far-flung areas. The spokesman stated that as schools,
colleges and universities were closed due to winter vocation, the attestation of
forms also became a major problem for the suffering students and board took the
decision in this regard to address their issue. The news

PPSC recommendations for 72 headmasters
Lahore: The School Education Department Punjab has received recommendations for the selection of 72
Senior Headmasters (BS-18) from the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).
The department had issued instructions to the Directorate of Staff
Development (DSD) for training of these selected Headmasters which would
commence from January 1, 2012. educational tour: The School Education Department
(SED) has issued necessary directions for government and private schools for
educational and recreation tours. The SED has made it compulsory for the
tour organisers to seek permission from the parents of the students before
taking them on any educational or recreational tours. It further said that
vehicle should also be in well condition as well as maintenance certificate of
the vehicle and identification of driver would also be compulsory. To
inform in writing the concerned EDOs and DEOs about the tour programme in prior
will be compulsory for both governmental and private educational institute.
According to the new direction, arranging first aid with tour will also be
compulsory for the concerned authorities. convocation: Punjab
University's 120th Convocation will be held at Faisal Auditorium on Saturday
(today). A full dress rehearsal of the convocation was held here at the
auditorium, New Campus here on Friday. Chancellor/Governor Punjab Sardar
Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa will preside over the convocation.

Chemistry, MA Arabic & Mass Communication, Part-II, Annual Examination 2011,

GIS inauguration
Lahore: Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran inaugurated the
Geographical Information System (GIS) Centre on Friday. Speaking on the
occasion, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that every human being was independent in
choosing any faith in the light of the teachings of Quran and we should
establish relationship of respect and love with each other. PU VC said
the true purpose of prayer, fast, Haj, charity was unity, strength and
leadership of the world. He said the most dislikeable act before Allah was
creating disturbance on earth. He said we must make our character strong and
keep targets high to get an honourable place in the world. PUCIT
Principal Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his personal
interest and providing liberal aids in establishing GIS Centre.

GCU Computer Science dept wins contest
Lahore: The Computer Sciences Department of Government College University won Quaid-e-Azam Quiz
Competition 2011. The event was organized by Ravians Quiz Society in connection
with 136th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In a
press release here on Friday, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq ur
Rehman was the chief guest of the event in which 31 societies and academic
departments of the varsity participated. Muhammad Qamar Shabbir and
Rehman Latif, students of BSc (Hons) Computer Sciences scored highest points
while GCU Department of Statistics secured the second position. Speaking on the
occasion, Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman advised the Ravians to lead a life as true
Muslims and a patriot Pakistani. He paid tribute to Jinnah and stressed the
students to bring the Muslim glory back in the field of social sciences and
science and technology.

Annual day celebrations held at FJWU
Rawalpindi: Fatima Jinnah Women University organised the 'Colour Conferral Ceremony' to embark the
annual day celebrations in the university premises. The deans, department's
chairpersons, faculty members and the students were present at the event.
The 'Colour Conferral Ceremony' is a part of the annual day
celebrations. The deans conferred the university colour to their respective
faculties. The students took the oath to protect the dignity, honour and
betterment of the university. While addressing the students the Vice
Chancellor, Professor Dr. Samina Amin Qadir said that it was a very special day
for the university as it has successfully completed its 13th year. The support
and efforts of the faculty members, staff and students are worth mentioning.
"Currently, 36 PhD scholars are enrolled in the foreign universities and these
scholars will help in the professional enrichment of the university. At present,
three departments offer M.Phil and PhD with an aim to extend it to the other
departments as well," she said. The VC told about the future plans of
starting the Urdu Department along with the specialized degrees in Language,
Literature, Chemistry and Biotechnology. The Urdu Department would be an
upgraded department with a difference incorporating new ideas and in accordance
to the current environment.

Rich tributes paid to BB at SZABIST
Islamabad: After spending eight years in exile, away from her country, when Benazir Bhutto
returned to Pakistan she was advised to limit her activities as she was facing
life threats, but the great leader refused to do so saying people have reached
from the mountains of Kashmir to welcome me, now how can I stay away from them,
said Deputy Speaker of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Shaheen Kasaur
Dar. She stated this while highlighting the vision of Benazir Bhutto
Shaheed at an event to mark her 4th death anniversary at Shaheed Zulfikar Ali
Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST), Islamabad. While
discussing various aspects of Benazir Bhutto's life the speaker said that the
assassinated former prime minister continued her struggle bravely to restore
democracy till her last breath. Shaheen who was personally present in Liaquat
Bagh, Rawalpindi at the time of BB's assassination said the great leader was
fully determined to fulfil the vision and dream of his father late Zulfiqar Ali
Bhutto. She was of the view that Z A Bhutto was very well aware about the
exceptional abilities of his daughter. He said that Bhutto knew that her
daughter is very strong and courageous and that is why in spite of facing so
many hardships in life including, hanging of her father, mysterious death of her
brother abroad, brutal murder of another brother in Karachi, helpless mother,
jailed husband, and eight years away from the country could not weaken her
mission. Sharing her personal experience the deputy speaker recalled the
December 27, 2007 evening when she and many other workers of PPP were standing
in one row in front of Benazir Bhutto, and late prime minister asked them to
unite in helping the poor and mitigating the sufferings of all those who are
deprived, oppressed and helpless. SZABIST Director Syed Asad Hussain
while addressing on the occasion paid rich tributes to Benazir Bhutto. He said
that the brave leader wanted to usher in an era of educational revolution in
Pakistan. To achieve this objective, he added, BB established SZABIST
University, which is now fulfilling her dream and carrying forward her mission
of an educated nation.

Seminar on Ghalib held at IIU
Islamabad: The speakers at a seminar said Mirza Ghalib removed mistakes in Urdu Prose and made
it a language that is comprehensible to all. They said this during a
seminar on renowned Urdu poet Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib, organised here by the
International Islamic University (IIU) Islamabad. IIUI Rector Professor
Fateh Muhammad Malik said that people think that Ghalib was a poet of inaction
but in reality his inaction leads towards action. "Ghalib was a poet of all
ages. Allama Iqbal took Ghalib's vision forward and a separate country for
Muslims of sub-continent came into being," he said. Dr. Khalid Masood
said modernity is linked to the humanity and it should be taken as a unit with
no differentiation between religions. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir said that Ghalib's
writing is influenced by experiences of real life as he made his poetry
appealing to all and sundry and not confined it to Wahdatul Wajood. Professor
Qaiserah M. Alvi, Director Women Campus and Dr. Sadia Tahir also spoke on the
