HEC urges charters for Islamia College, University of Wah

Islamabad, Feb 25, 2008: The University of Wah, Wah Cantt and Islamia College University, Peshawar have been granted Recommendation Letter/NOC for grant of Charter by Punjab Government and NWFP Government respectively, according to an HEC statement released on Saturday.

The Recommendation Letters/NOC have been granted upon clearance of feasibility report followed by inspection of academic, financial and physical infrastructure in relation to the Cabinet Criteria requirements set by the Federal Cabinet in October 2006.

The University of Wah is a project of Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POF) Welfare Trust and is being established by the private sector. The Wah Engineering College, Wah Medical College, Mashal College and Sir Syed College will be the constituent units of the university. The POF Welfare Trust, being a non-profit welfare organisation, envisages providing quality education at affordable cost to the students.

The Islamia College, Peshawar is presently affiliated with University of Peshawar and gained a repute for providing education in various fields of knowledge over a long and illustrious span of its existence. The College was established in 1913 and has been a beacon of education for 94 years. The College has recently introduced six postgraduate departments in its existing buildings that include Chemistry, Botany, English, Statistics, Islamiyat, LLB and Sharia. nni

"On the behalf of students of wah universty from this forum i will request the Cabniet of Punjab Govt and HEC.Do something for our future.we feel that we are missfit in pakistan in coming Days/years.we pay more and spend a lot of time but at the end our hands are blanked. since last two weeks we are on stikes for that cause,but we dont know when it will be done n then we have a bright future. Dr Iqrar new VC of UAF
Faisalabad: Prof Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan has been appointed vice-chancellor (VC) of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) for a period of four years. Dr. Iqrar will be the 16th VC of the university and will take over the charge of his office on the completion of four-year term of his predecessor Prof Dr. Bashir Ahmad.

Dr. Iqrar earned his doctorate and post-doctoral degrees from the University of California Riverside, United States, with distinction.

He has 31 years experience in research and development of agriculture, biology and environment and has undertaken research and teaching assignments at seven universities, including six foreign universities.

Dr. Iqrar performed meritorious assignments as director-general of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Islamabad, and chief scientist/director of Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB), Faisalabad. APP
