Lahore, Feb 02: The Punjab University Examinations Department has issued the schedule for submission of admission fee and forms for BCom, Annual Exam, 2012.
According to a press release on Wednesday, for regular candidates, the last date for submission of admission forms with single fee is 28-02-2012 (by hand) and 17-02-2012 (by post) while the forms can be submitted with double fee till 08-03-2012 (by hand) and 01-03-2012 (by post).
BISE abolishes Form-B condition
Lahore: Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore chairman Dr Allah Bukhsh has abolished the condition of Form-B for admission to the Intermediate Annual Examination 2012. According to a press release on Wednesday, the BISE chairman, on the request of students, parents and heads of educational institutions, issued orders to abolish the condition of Form-B for the students with their admission forms for the exams. Students, teachers and parents lauded the decision of the BISE chairman, saying it would ease the tension of the students.
GCU best library
Lahore: GCU received the Best Library Award 2012 and 224 latest key publications from the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR), Cambridge, UK. In a press release here on Wednesday, GCU VC Prof Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman and Dean Faculty of Science and Technology Prof Dr Ikramul Haq welcomed this saying now GCU Library stood among the top 150 institutions of the world.
Dr Munir appointed as acting AAUR VC
Rawalpindi: Professor Dr. Muhammad Munir, dean of the Faculty of Crop and Food Sciences and senior most professor of the university, has been appointed as acting vice chancellor of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) here on Wednesday.
An honorary ceremony was held at the university in which former vice chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Khan, dean/directors, administrative and principal officers of the university participated. On the occasion Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Khan handed over the charge to the newly appointed acting vice chancellor.
On this occasion, Dr. Munir thanked the officers and wished to make PMAS-AAUR also a hub of research activities. He said that improvement in educational and research activities along with educational friendly environment would be provided. He further said that all the facilities would be provided to students because they are the assets of the university.
Professor Dr. Muhammad Munir carries a remarkable academic career throughout his education. He got 1st position in Plant Breeding and Genetics Department and 2nd position in the University in MSc. (Hons.) Agri. in the session 1974-1976 and was awarded a Silver Medal and Merit/Quaid-i-Azam Scholarship of the Ministry of Education, GoP. During 1992-1993, the European Commission honored him with 'Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship' for one year on 'Physiology of drought stress in rapeseed' at the Department of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology, University of Liverpool, England. Professor Munir has acquired specialised trainings in various fields of agriculture and biology and administration. He is author of more than 84 publications including two books, one of which was awarded certificate of commendation and cash prize by Ministry of Education, Islamabad. He has been life Member of Pakistan Botanical Society, Karachi; Pakistan Genetically Society, Islamabad; and Agricultural Foundation of Pakistan, Islamabad.
Prof. Munir was awarded 'Star Laureate Award 2007' and certificate of Excellence by South Asian Publication. He has an experience of working in the prestigious institution of the country including Nuclear Institute of Agriculture and Biology, Faisalabad, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and National Agriculture Research Council, Islamabad.
Naat contest held at FJWU
Rawalpindi: Campus Radio VoW 96.6 FM at Fatima Jinnah Women University organised an Inter-Departmental Competition here on Wednesday. The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. Naheed Zia Khan, Chairperson, Radio Editorial Board and Dean of Law, Commerce and Management.
The judges for the competition were Akhter Habib, Asifa Farooqi and Sarah Akhter Hashmi. The event was attended by the chairpersons, faculty and students.
The competition started with the recitation from the Holy Quran by Asma Khan, student of Islamic Studies Department. Roqia Khurshid, Producer, Radio VoW 96.6 welcomed the distinguished guest and the judges. Eleven departments of the university participated in the competition. While the results were being compiled, the judges were requested to recite Naat in front of the audience. Dr. Naheed Zia Khan announced the results according to which, Faiza Fayyaz of Economics Department got first position, followed by Memoona Mazhar of Education Department securing second position and Sobia Mansoor of Communication and Media Studies Department stood third.
Addressing the students, Dr. Naheed Zia Khan said that the life of our Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is a role model for humanity. "We should forget our differences and unite together for a problem-free society, where tolerance should be the key goal," she said. The university souvenirs were presented to the respected judges by Dr. Naheed Zia Khan.
Vote of thanks was offered by Ms. Shama Khalid, Senior Producer Radio Vow. She thanked the audience and said that Radio VoW aims to widen the vision of the young females in every field of life.
British Council, YES Network, SZABIST to fight unemployment
Islamabad: British Council, Youth Engagement Services (YES) Network and Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Wednesday which is aimed at curtail rising unemployment all over the country with special focus on youth.
Under this MoU, YES a local organization working in partnership with British Council, will establish a special unit named 'Youth Enterprise Generator' at SZABIST's Islamabad Campus to provide education to students related to social entrepreneurship.
Objectives of this UNIT would include providing the would-be students entrepreneurs, infrastructure, skill orientation, access to interest free credit, business management skills, local and international exposures and peer networks. To achieve these goals, YES will provide interest free loans technical assistance and project planning skills to students. YES will also organise seminars, panel discussions, talk shows for the promotion of youth entrepreneurship. Establishing international linkages for promotion of youth entrepreneurship is also part of the MoU. SZABIST will provide a suitable place to YES Network Pakistan for the establishment of a Youth Enterprise Generator in its premises. SZABIST will also provide physical and social infrastructure to YES with required Director SZABIST Syed Asad Hussain termed it a comprehensive and multi-pronged initiative that will make the youth and talented students employer in their own area of expertise and so they could play a role in national development. He was of the view that strengthening the culture of entrepreneur will make the national economy resilient and stable.
The idea of SZABIST-British Council/YES under 'Youth Enterprise Generator' Programme is to promote knowledge-driven growth in Pakistan and to lift Pakistan's sagging rank at the Human Development Index which experts say is the result of low spending on human development.
Rawalpindi: The Annual Art Exhibition 2012 displaying creative work of the MFA Graphic Design students of the Foundation University, Islamabad, was held at the Rawalpindi Arts Council.
The exhibition included students' work in Graphic Designing, Computer Graphics, Drawing, Photography, Videography, Typography and Thesis Display. In all 35 students presented their work done manually as well as on computer during their degree programme. FUI Rector Professor Dr. Belal A. Khan, who was chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated the exhibition. He was accompanied by Professor Dr. M. Maqsud Alam Bukhari, principal of the Foundation University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Two graduating students presented their thesis work that was displayed in the halls of the council. Maryam Aslam worked on 'Global warming and the impact on trees because of global warming'. She displayed 31 pieces on the topic and her campaign was 'Green Ideas'. Rabia Shahid had done her thesis on clean drinking water. For this topic, she showed various methodologies, for water purification through chlorine tablets, filtration, boiling and sunlight.
Documentaries were shown in the auditorium of the council that were much appreciated by the parents, faculty and students present on the occasion. The two university documentaries were made by Khola and Husnain. There were interviews with the rector and principal and the students. Another documentary 'Main Kaun Houn' was presented that was an assignment made by Husnain, was also shown, in which a person is searching for his identity.
Various eminent artists, faculty members and art lovers from the twin cities visited the exhibition and praised the artistic work of the FUI students.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bilal said the university started with its Bachelor Programme then developed its Masters Programme. We need to advertise and showcase our students' work to the advertising community of Rawalpindi and Islamabad who can see what quality work we are producing. "In our university we have made conducive environment for our students so that the students can explore different mediums and different perspective of advertising products. All over the world Graphic Designing has achieved new levels, we need to explore the possibilities so that it can done on paper or it can be done on computer or any other medium. Our students are capable of delivering professional work as they can enhance the effect of reality in their work. Some designers explore ideas using pencil, paper while others use many other mark making tools from computer to sculpture," he said. The news
IIUI forms search body for selection of president
Islamabad: The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), Rector Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik has formed a committee for short-listing three suitable candidates for the post of the university president.
Justice Agha Rafique Ahmad, Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Dr Javaid H Leghari, Higher Education Commission Chairman, Shehnaz Wazir Ali, MNA and former adviser to the prime minister on education Dr Ishrat Hussain and Foreign Affairs Secretary Salman Bashir are members of the committee. Proffesor Fateh Malik is a member and secretary of the committee, which has been created to ensure transparency in the selection process of a suitable candidate for the post of the university president.
In terms of relevant provision of the rules, the rector is authorised to propose a panel of three names to the authority concerned for consideration of the appointment of the president. Daily times
