Karachi, Jan 08: The Senior Minister for Education and Literacy, Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq issued 203 appointment letters to lecturers selected by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on Friday. A distribution ceremony was organised at the Reform Support Unit (RSU) in the NJV Government Higher Secondary School on MA Jinnah Road.
The freshly appointed lecturers would perform their duties at different colleges of the province. At least 80 female and 122 male lecturers were selected for vacant posts in the education department of Sindh, with 77 of them joining colleges in Karachi.
Interestingly, one of the lecturers was issued appointment letters for two different posts. He then had to choose which post he would be willing to accept. However, some of the lecturers protested against being posted in far flung areas.

The minister revealed that the freshly appointed female lecturers would teach for at least three years at their place of appointment, while male lecturers would complete a term of five years before being transferred to another location.
Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq urged the teachers to perform their duties with the complete dedication. He also said that he was well aware of the presence of a mafia in the education department which takes money to deliver appointment letter to have candidates appointed by the Sindh PSC.
"I have decided to monitor developments personally to ensure that there is no corruption the department of education. The Provincial Secretary for Education has been assigned the task of distributing appointment letters in order to maintain transparency," said Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq. He added that action has been taken against those officials involved in corrupt practices.
The education department established five booths outside the RSU office where successful candidates can collect their appointment letters. The senior minister for education said this measure has been taken to defeat corrupt individuals in the education department.
Furthermore, he claimed that none of the 14,000 teachers selected for primary and junior schools were appointed on political grounds.
Also speaking at the event, the Secretary for Education, Naheed Shah said that the government was facing trouble in brining the system up to date because of a huge cut in the funds granted to them.
She observed that the local education system is not up to international standards and for this reason, graduates from government colleges are finding it difficult to find jobs in the market.
