Student leader gunned down
KARACHI, June 14(Daily Times): Muttahida Talba Mahaz (MTM) President Wasif
Aziz was shot dead in Malir late Tuesday night. Aziz was shot four times by
unidentified motorcyclists near the Malir 15 bus stop, within the jurisdictions
of the Saudabad police station. The police said that Aziz was on his motorcycle
and was going to his house in Defence Garden after attention the death
anniversary of Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatullah Khomeini. The assailants
chases Aziz from the Malir Jafar-e-Tayyar Society. He was shot twice in the head
and the chest. He died while being transported to a hospital by a police mobile
unit. Another mobile unit was patrolling in the area, but the assailants managed
to escape. Aziz was a final-year student at a local college. He was affiliated
with the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) and had only recently been made the
president of the MTM. His body was laid to rest Wednesday at the D.H.A.
graveyard in Defence Phase-4 after funeral prayers, which were led by the former
city nazim, Niamatullah Khan and attended by thousands of students. Meanwhile,
the IJT has blamed the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for the murder and have said
that they would lodge a FIR against the Sindh governor and the advisor to the
Sindh chief minister for home affairs.
Farooq Sattar condemns murder of
student leader: MQM Parliamentary Leader Farooq Sattar condemned Wednesday the
abduction and murder of a student leader in Karachi. Speaking on a point of
order at the National Assembly, he said that this murder was part of the process
that was initiated on May 12 to deteriorate the peaceful environment in the port
city. He said that all the ethnic groups united after the May 12 incidents. He
also asked the provincial government to initiate an inquiry into the matter and
present its report in the Assembly.
