Atta-ur-Rehman for more research based study
Islamabad, June 20(The News): Chairman HEC Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman has
said that the basic emphasis of the government is on quality, access and
relevance that is now our target to achieve for making our students compatible
to the international standards.
He said the government is bent upon
trying to improvise the quality of higher education in the country and within 2
years time Rs880,000,000 have been spent to modernize education. In the coming
year additional Rs600,000,000 would be spent in order to bring major changes in
education sector.
He stated this while speaking at the 41st College of
Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) Convocation 2007 held at Convention
Center here on Tuesday. It is a momentous occasion for those who are receiving
these degrees and diplomas because successfully you have completed your training
having excellent examination system with International compatibility, he
said.
"The researches and interactive studies that are taking place in
universities nowadays have resulted in more stronger impact broadening the
vision and perceptive of a student." In last four years, Rs800 million were
allocated for modernizing education in the budget but in the recent budget more
than 18 billion have been allocated for education sector, said the HEC Chairman,
"hats off to the president Pervez Musharraf for his continued support for HEC
and providing us the challenge as well as the opportunity to serve our country
in a befitting manner.
The chairman informed that the salary structures
of the professors have been revised manifolds and various universities are being
access to 400-500 international journals. There has been a tremendous growth in
research-based projects and now at least 30,000 to 40,000 professional textbooks
would be imported from abroad. Live Interactive Lectures are already being held
in different universities and 20 more universities are line up to avail this
facility.
Earlier President CPSP Zafar Ullah Chaudhry while addressing
the recipients of the degrees said that our nation on one hand is facing the
burden of disease and on the other hand bears the exuberant cost of healthcare
facilities. These things have deprived the poor strata of society from the
availability of reliable and competent healthcare. "It is now in your hands what
service you can best render to your country and to the society at large in
return for your excellent training and learning.

Cardiology, Chemical Pathology, Communication Medicine, Dermatology, Diagnostic
Radiology, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Histopathology, Medicine,

Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Operative Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Oral surgery,
Orthodontics, Orthopaedic surgery, Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Paediatric cardiology,
Paediatric surgery, Paediatrics, Plastic Surgery, Psychiatry, Pulmonology,
Radiotherapy, Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Family medicine and Family
Dentistry.
