RMC student gunned down
Rawalpindi, March 29, 2008: A Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) student was gunned
down in RA Bazaar on Thursday night.
Police said four unidentified men
fired at the 20-year-old student, Awais Khan, in Dhoke Chaudhrian. The
assailants fled soon after the attack. Khan was shifted to the District
Headquarters Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
The body was handed
over to the bereaved family after autopsy.
Khan's father lodged an FIR
with RA Bazaar Police Station but named no suspects.
LUMS organises talk show
Lahore: Keeping in mind the essence of the day March 23, 1940,
Phoenix, a society of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on
Friday held a talk show, focusing on re-igniting the fervour and passion of the
youth. According to a press release issued by Phoenix, the panellists for the
talk show included Atif Aslam, writer Ghazi Salahuddin, television actress Seemi
Raheel, Nirala Sweets owner Ahmer Farooq and debater Waqas Mir. The talk show
was an interactive discussion where the panellists and the students held a
healthy informal discussion about the plight of the Pakistani youth. Daily Times
Habib Bank starts ATM service at IIU
Islamabad: Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has started its ATM service at International
Islamic University (IIU) to facilitate the students and faculty members.
President IIU Dr. Anwar H. Siddiqui inaugurated
the Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
Addressing the
university's faculty members, IIU and HBL officers, he said that a big branch of
HBL would be set up at New Campus to cater to the future needs of the IIU.
He said presently
the university had over 12000 students, five hundred teachers, and 1000
employees. However, in near future the university will have more than 20,000
students, while the number of teachers and employees will also be increased.
He expressed the
hope that the HBL management would set up a big branch at IIU, which would help
fulfill the increasing needs of the university. He also appreciated the services
and long association of HBL with IIU for the last 30 years.
Regional Chief
Executive HBL, Izhar-ul-Haq on the occasion briefed about the services and
products of HBL.
He assured that the
bank besides constructing a new building at IIU for its branch would soon set up
a separate ATM point for women students. The News
