College girls' function attacked; 35 students hurt
Mardan, March 02: Two suspected militants attacked with grenades a gathering of students of the Lundkhawar Girls Degree College here on Tuesday, injuring 35 girls.
Ms Dilshad, the principal of the college, told journalists that Third Year students had arranged a farewell party for their seniors and they were taking photographs when they came under the terrorist attack. The inured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital and Mardan Medical Complex and their condition was stated to be stable.
DHQ's Medical Superintendent Dr Mohammad Tahir told this reporter that 19 of the girls were admitted to his hospital and 16 to the MMC. One student, with serious injuries, was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.
District Police Officer Zeeshan Haider said that two men who were on motorcycles hurled two grenades on the students after firing on the watchman who had tried to stop them. The watchman was injured.Your Comments
Hazara to have science and technology varsity
Mansehra: A Science and Technology University will be established in Hazara and in this regard the initial feasibility report has been sent to the Prime Minister's Secretariat for further action, said Prof Sakhawat Shah, the vice chancellor of Hazara University, here on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Shah said that during his meeting with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in Islamabad last week the latter had directed him to prepare the feasibility report for the establishment of Science and Technology University in Hazara. He said that the prime minister had shown great interest in the establishment of the university.
He said that the Hazara University had sent the initial feasibility report for establishment of the Science and Technology University to the PM's Secretariat. He said that the new university was needed, as the students of Hazara division had been going to other parts of the country for getting the science and technology education.
Mr Shah said that campus of Hazara University in Haripur had the all the basic facilities to be upgraded as a full-fledged university. COMPENSATION:
The provincial government on Tuesday paid a compensation of Rs300,000 each to the relatives of NGO staffers who were killed in the terrorist attack on the offices of World Vision in Oghi last year.
On March 10, 2010 seven staffers of the World Vision were killed and six others injured when terrorists attacked their offices at Dogai area of Oghi tehsil.
Provincial food minister Shuja Salim Khan gave away the cheques for Rs300,000 each to the relatives of Mohammad Fahim and Imtiaz, and Rs100,000 each to Ihsanullah, Munir and Khushboo Bibi, who were injured in the attack. The government has already paid the compensation amount to the relatives of five other victims.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the government was trying to address financial problems of the families, who lost their bread earners in the terrorist attacks.
He said that the government was taking tangible steps to get rid of militancy and ensure unhindered progress and development of the country. Dawn
FU MBBS result announced
Islamabad: The Foundation University has announced the result of the Final Professional MBBS (Annual) Examination 2010.
Out of 109 candidates, 86 were declared successful with a pass percentage of 78.90. Sadia Bashir, Roll No. 2965, Registration No. 2047/FUMC/MBBS-2006, secured first position in the examination by securing 1,378 out of 1,800 marks.
