KU, inter exams postponed
Karachi, May 20: The Sindh government announced on Wednesday that all educational institutions in the city would remain closed on Thursday.
However, prior to the announcement, the University of Karachi had already postponed its semester examinations scheduled for Thursday in view of the poor law and order situation in the city.
In view of the late-night announcement the intermediate examinations for Thursday were also postponed.
KU Vice-Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim said that the examinations of various departments would not be held on Thursday and new dates for the postponed papers would be announced later.
He said that the decision was taken by the university administration in consultation with the law-enforcing agencies in view of the fact that the varsity had to send its point buses for its students.
The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, which had earlier decided to hold the HSC Science Part-II paper as per schedule on Thursday, also postponed the papers.
BIEK Chairman Anwar Ahmed Zai said that as the Sindh government had announced the closure of all schools and colleges on Thursday, the intermediate exams scheduled for Thursday had also been postponed. DawnYour Comments

College principal resigns
Karachi: The project director and first principal of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari, Prof Hassan Dost Afridi, has resigned his posts "for personal reasons".
He has been replaced by retired Capt Mukhtiar Ahmed Khwaja, the medical superintendent of the Lyari General Hospital, who has been given an additional charge. Dawn
Chinese delegation visit KU
Karachi: Pak-China friendship is not only long lasting but also ever lasting because we have transferred the token of love for each other to our younger generations as well, said a Chinese delegation that visited the University of Karachi (KU) on Wednesday. "This mutual affinity will help us in every field of life be it education or any other social interaction."
The delegation was led by Prof Dr Shi Jian, Vice President of Sichuan University. He was accompanied by eminent faculty members and 20 students of his university. Their trip was arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan.
Vice Chancellor, KU, Prof Pirzada Qasim, gave a brief account of the achievements of the KU and insisted upon initiating collaborative research projects and students' exchange programmes between the two countries in the future because, according to him, past interactions have proved to be fruitful in every respect.
KU Student's Advisor Dr Tanveer Khalid lauded the relationship between Pakistan and China. Pro-Vice Chancellors, Prof Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi and Prof Dr Nasiruddin Khan were also present on the occasion.
Executive Director of the Pakistan Study Centre in Sichuan University Chen Ji Dong was felicitated by Dr Jafar Ahmed, Director of Pakistan Study Centre, KU, who appreciated the efforts of their institute in China and offered to establish a centre for Chinese studies at the KU.
Dean Faculty of Management Sciences Prof Dr Abuzar Wajidi suggested exchange programmes between the two universities and suggested initiations of dialogue on the concept of HR and Management.
