PU teachers rally against IJT
Lahore: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) on Friday protested against the police failure to arrest all Islamai Jamiat Talaba's (IJT) activists involved in the beating up of PU Disciplinary Committee head Dr Iftikhar Baloch.

A number of PU teachers holding placards and banners, demanded the arrest of all IJT activists involved in the incident. The teachers first congregated at Institute of Chemical Engineering, and then marched towards the Institute of Education and Research. They criticised police for not arresting IJT ringleader Usman Ashraf and other activists despite the fact that faculty members were still receiving threats from the group. Daily times

LUMS decides to defy LHC stay order
Lahore: The University of Management Sciences (LUMS) faculty has decided to defy a Lahore High Court (LHC) stay order setting aside judgement by LUMS disciplinary committees to expel students allegedly involved in illegally accessing faculty computer accounts, stealing exams and quizzes and making false and misleading statements. According to a statement issued on Friday, a special meeting of the LUMS faculty council made the unanimous decision in a bid to "protect the integrity of the institution". "The evidence [against the students] ... was absolutely clear cut. The guilty students ... [also] appealed to the DC for leniency after eventually admitting their crime in the face of incontrovertible evidence. This admission of guilt they subsequently denied to obtain the [LHC] stay order.

Also, the stay order granted to them by the court is in contradiction to earlier high court judgments on maintainability of writs against LUMS," said the statement. According to the faculty council, the LHC stay order would allow the "guilty students" to sit for exams and complete their graduation. "We need hardly remind ... that this would open the floodgates and destroy the credibility of the LUMS degree ... to allow this to happen here would cause irreparable damage to the institution that we have worked so hard to establish." The LUMS faculty council has vowed, therefore, not to take classes, nor administer or grade exams of the students. "We are resolved to resign rather than take part in this travesty. This note may ... be considered a provisional note of resignation as faculty members on all our behalves. We are willing to face any consequences to uphold the value and integrity of LUMS," said the members. Daily times
