Admissions in KU's evening programme start
Karachi, Nov 22: Karachi University (KU)'s director evening programme Prof Dr Abuzar Wajidi has announced that the admissions in evening programme for the year 2011 will commence from Monday (today). The admissions are offered for M Pharm, MBA, BBA, BPA, BS and certificate programmes in various departments. Forms can be obtained from UBL booth situated at the Silver Jubilee gate from 9:30am to 5pm from Nov 22 to Dec 7. Duly filled forms could be submitted in UBL University branch from 5pm to 7pm. ppi
KU to hold global moot on natural product chemistry
Karachi: The four-day 12th International Symposium on Natural Product Chemistry will commence from November 22 to November 250 at the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi University (KU).
Over 500 scientists and researchers from nearly 30 countries have expected to participate in this international event, which is one of the most prestigious international events in the field of natural product sciences.
These views were expressed by Director ICCBS, Prof. Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, while speaking at an official meeting, at the ICCBS. He said that the aim of the symposium was to bring together the leading experts in the field of natural products sciences from all around the world and from global partnership for sustainable utilisation of natural resources for the common benefits of humanity and rapid development of the countries in the south.
He said, "The inaugural ceremony of the global chemistry event will be held on Monday at 9:00am at the ICCBS Auditorium. KU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui will inaugurate the symposium while Coordinator General COMSTECH and former Chairman Higher Education Commission, Prof. Dr Atta-ur-Rahman will be the guest of honour on the occasion.
Besides, KU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi, Director ICCBS Prof. Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Dean Faculty of Sciences Prof. Dr Darakhshan J Haleem, Managing Trustee Muhammad Hussain Panjwani Memorial Trust Ms Nadira Pujwani, Chairman Husein Ebrahim Jamal Foundation Aziz Latif Jamal and Dr Ghulam Musharraf of HEJ will also express their views on the occasion."
He also expressed the hope that the dynamic and magical spirit of the mega city of Karachi will provide the most conducive milieu in which stimulating scientific exchange amongst natural product scientists from all over the world can take place. Through this meeting stronger research ties between the scientists of different regions can be fostered, and said that the ICCBS had organised a number of major international conferences and symposia on various aspects of natural product chemistry, spectroscopy and protein chemistry; international symposia held every year in Karachi and they have attracted eminent chemists from all over the world and have become renowned as among the best conferences in these fields, he said.
He said, "The programme will consist of plenary lectures, invited lectures and poster presentation. The lectures will be divided into several parallel sessions. Each session will focus on a theme within the broader area of natural product sciences. Internationally renowned scientists of the world will also deliver their lectures on different core issues of chemistry. Special social events will be arranged to ensure a lively interaction between scientists of different disciplines, regions and age groups." The news
Youth Festival 2010 kicks off
Karachi: The Sindh youth affairs department is holding the second youth festival from Sunday to Wednesday (Nov 21-24) in collaboration with the Arts Council, according to a press release issued here on Saturday.
The event includes competitions in painting, photography, debate, short films, singing, mural painting and fashion/ textile designing, 'bait bazi' and calligraphy as well as programmes like theatre, film screening, open discussion, a dialogue with legends, etc.
Former IBA director laid to rest
Karachi: Dr I.A. Mukhtar, a former dean and director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, was laid to rest at a local graveyard on Friday.
His funeral prayers were offered at the Ibrahim Mosque of the University of Karachi after Asr.
Professor Mukhtar passed away in Karachi on Thursday.
He had been associated with the IBA Karachi as professor emeritus. app
KU vice chancellor condoles Dr IA Mukhtar's death
Karachi: Vice Chancellor, Karachi University (KU), Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui has condoled over the demise of former director IBA and Professor Emeritus Dr IA Mukhtar (SI). He said that the deceased was an asset for the entire nation whose services for education are unforgettable. ppi
