Pakistan-Austria University to be established

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: The Pakistan-Austria University (PAU) is being established in collaboration with a consortium of Austrian universities coordinated by the Asean-Europoean Academic University Network of Austria said a press release on Thursday.

Technical University Vienna is the leading university in the consortium. Prof. Dr Atta ur Rehman held a meeting with Dr Johannes Helene Minister for Science and Research of the Republic of Austria in Vienna to finalize the establishment of Pak Austria university in Lahore.

General Pervaiz Musharraf performed the foundation stone laying ceremony on 18th November 2006, in the presence of an Austrian delegation headed by Dr. Elizabeth Gehrer, then Austrian Minister for Education, Technology and Culture. To start the MSc classes in 2008, the government has transferred the old Lahore Airport building to Higher Education Commission Islamabad, which will be a temporary arrangement.

The PAU site is located in Phase VII of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Lahore, and is about 21 km from the city centre on Burki Road. DHA has provided 130 acres of land for the university free of cost to the University.

The graduates of the university will cover a wide spectrum of national needs from research and development to product development and manufacture. An integral part of UESTP will be establishment of a Technology Park and Business Incubation Centre.

The university will have the six schools including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering & Mechatronics, Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Biotechnology including Health Biotechnology, Industrial Engineering and Basic Sciences The Nation
