BSEK postpones students' week
KARACHI, Oct 21: The Board of Secondary Education Karachi has notified
for the information of all the participants of Students' Week-2007 that it has
been postponed due to uncertain conditions prevailing in the
metropolis.
The board had earlier announced that the students' week would
be organised from Oct 22 to 27.
However, the event has been postponed due
to uncertain conditions.
It has been announced that new dates will be
notified later and the participants will be informed
accordingly.
SeminarA seminar on the academic and literary
services of Mirza Qaleech Baig is being organised by the Sindhi Department of
the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology on Oct
22.
Abdul Haq campus is the venue. FUUAST Vice-Chancellor Dr Syed
Kamaluddin will preside over the seminar and Mirza Aijaz Baig will be the chief
guest.
Dr Nawaz Ali Shouq, Dr Khursheed Abbasi, Dr Noor Afroz Khawaja,
Amar Sindhu, Agha Noor Muhammad Pathan, Shamsherul Haideri, Irfan Abbasi, Naseer
Mirza and Inayat Hussain Leghari will speak on the occasion.
Workshop
An international training workshop on nematode identification will
commence here from Oct 22.
The two-week-long programme is being organised
by the National Nematological Research Centre, the University of Karachi in
collaboration with the Pakistan Society of Nematologists.
NNRC Director
Dr Shahina Fayyaz says the workshop is aimed at sharing experiences and
understanding of the subject by local and foreign researchers and
scientists.
The subject becomes all the more relevant in an agricultural
country like Pakistan, she says.
The workshop will be attended by 50
scientists and researchers from different parts of the country to identify the
nematodes and nematological problems through a series of lectures and laboratory
sessions.
Karachi University Vice-Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim will be the
chief guest at the inaugural session.
The resource persons will be Dr
Muhammad Shamim Jairajpuri and Dr Durdana Jairajpuri, both from India, and Dr
Muhammad Rafiq Siddiqui from the UK.-PPI/APP
