Punjab University annouced BA/BSc practical exams schedule
Lahore, Oct 31: The Punjab University's (PU) Examination Department has announced new schedule for the practical examinations of BA and BSc supplementary examinations.
The examinations, which were to begin on October 21, have been rescheduled to November 5, according to a spokesperson for the PU.
The spokesperson said roll number slips had been dispatched to the candidates. He also said the examination schedule was also posted on the university's official website, www.pu.edu.pk. APPYour Comments
UHS issued revised schedule of various professional exams
Lahore: The University of Health Sciences has issued the revised schedule of various professional examinations which were postponed last week due to security concerns.
According to a statement on Friday, objectively structured practical examinations of first professional MBBS Part-I and second professional MBBS annual examinations will start on November 12.
First professional MBBS Part-II annual examinations will start on November 13, third professional MBBS annual exams on December 14 and final professional MBBS annual examinations on November 23.
First professional BDS annual examination will be held on November 17, second professional BDS on December 11, third professional BDS on November 10 and final professional BDS annual examination will be held on December 15. The news
Reopening of educational institutions in trible areas
Kohat: The commissioner, Kohat division, has ordered that all universities and educational institutions in the region including tribal areas would reopen from Nov 2.
He said that a 19-point security plan had already been enforced collectively by the government and the administrations of the educational institutions in the respective districts.
Addressing a high-level meeting at his office on Friday the Commissioner, Khalid Khan Umerzai listened to the proposals of the Peace Committee and representatives of the educational institutions. He directed the executive district officers, education, and the school/college managements to adopt a fool proof plan for the security of the children and the teachers.
The meeting was attended by DIG, Kohat region, Abdullah Khan, District Police Officer, Kohat, Dilawar Khan Bangash, District Coordination Officer, Kifayatullah Khan, District Coordination Officer, Karak, Mohammad Ajmal, all the executive district officers, education, members of the teachers' association, peace committee members, and representatives of schools, colleges and universities attended the meeting. GCU approved fundraising projects
Lahore: The Government College University (GCU) Endowment Fund Trust's (EFT) executive committee has approved three fundraising projects.
The projects were approved in a committee meeting chaired by Iqbal Z Ahmad on Friday. GCU Vice-Chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab also attended the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that the EFT would also hold an exclusive dinner for noted businessmen, bankers and philanthropists in December to raise funds for the university's development projects and scholarships. The trust also decided to organise a fundraising telethon on a private TV channel.
Addressing the meeting, the GCU vice chancellor said the university needed huge funds for research and development projects. He said every year over 2,000 students applied for financial aid but the university was able to accommodate only 20 percent of them.
Khalid Manzoor Butt, meanwhile, told the executive committee members that philanthropists and former GCU students had pledged Rs 7.3 million at the Iftar dinner, out of which Rs 3.6 million had already been received by the trust. Daily times
PU teacher honoured
Lahore: Chairperson of Department of Political Science of the Punjab University (PU) has been selected for the "Star Laureate-2008" award by South Asian Publications Pakistan. A press release said that Dr Umbreen Javaid has been selected among 100 short-listed recipients and eventually declared as the 'Star Laureate' on national level in recognition of her credentials.
Student crushed to death
Lahore: A Student of Telecommunication Department of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology was crushed to death in a road accident on Friday. The victim was identified as Yasir Suhail Qureshi, a resident of Moghalpura. He was on his way to campus on a motorcycle when the accident occurred due to sand spread on Defence Road in front of Gate No 02 of the campus. The students of the campus have demanded immediate construction of humps on both the sides of Defence Road in front of the Campus Gate to avert further accidents.
Lahore: The Joint Action Committee Asataza Punjab has announced staging of a protest demonstration against the decision of the Board of Governors of Government Central Model School, Lower Mall, regarding transfers of four teachers on Saturday (today).
Teachers' representatives strongly criticized the school's BoG, alleging the negative attitude of its members was damaging the peaceful academic environment of the school. They further said transfers of four teachers and registration of cases against 11 teachers had created unrest among the teaching fraternity while educational activities at Government Central Model School had almost been suspended for the last few days.
