HEC starts verification of staff's degrees
Islamabad: After starting the verification process of parliamentarians and public sector universities, faculty members and staff degrees, the HEC finally has decided to clean its own house by sending degrees of its staff in Islamabad and provincial offices to their mother institutions to purge fake degree holders from its ranks According to HEC sources the commission decided to verify the authenticity of its own staff members' academic degrees to give the youth a message to "not involve in such illegal and immoral activities". "Under the directive of HEC Chairman Javed Leghari, staff members working under the HEC are advised to verify their degrees within two weeks and submit the report to the commission," sources said.

According to our report, there are over 1,400 employees working in HEC offices, out of which over 800 are graduates. "All these staff members are advised to verify their educational credentials while lower staff working under grade 7, including peons and other staff are exempted from it," sources said. Talking about the verification process, an HEC official said staff members would be provided a form that was also available on the Internet asking about personal information and academic background.

Universities to verify staff degrees internally
Islamabad: After the fake degree issue of parliamentarians the HEC few months back had asked all 132 public and private sector universities to verify the degrees of their faculty members and staff but now the commission has asked all the universities to conduct the verification process internally and submit their reports to the commission as soon as possible.

According to HEC sources, the commission had earlier written a letter to vice chancellors (VCs) of all the universities, asking them to direct their faculty members and administrative staff, comprising over 16,000 faculty members, and 25,000 other working staff, to submit their degrees for attestation latest by July 15. "This process was too long as there are thousands of faculty members and staff deputed in public sector universities, hence the HEC asked them to conduct internal verification and submit a report to the commission," the sources said. According to the sources, top university administration officials and contractual employees in equivalent positions were also required to submit their degrees for attestation. Sources said it might take months to complete the process, as there were over 25,000 faculty members and staff in different universities and in comparison the strength of "verification staff was thin".
