Diyal Singh College student killed by speeding truck
LAHORE, Sept 22: A student – Tariq Pervaiz - of Diyal Singh College was
killed by a speeding truck near Shabbab Chowk on Friday. His sister, who was
also on the motorcycle, was severely injured. A few days earlier, a student of
Punjab University was killed and his sister was injured in a collision with a
rashly driven 22-wheeler on Bund Road. Tariq was dropping his elder sister –
Sakeena – at a tuition academy when a speeding truck carrying sand hit his
motorcycle. Tariq was killed instantly while bystanders took Sakeena to Jinnah
Hospital.
The driver escaped the scene. Tariq was a resident of Ghausia Park in
Samanabad. Witnesses said Samanabad and Millat Park police reached the spot
after half an hour of the accident. Officials from both police stations claimed
that the accident did not occur in their jurisdiction and argued with each
other, witnesses added. Friends and relatives of the deceased protested and
asked the police to take the body into custody first and then decide which
police station's jurisdiction the accident took place, witnesses said. Millat
Park police then took the body to the morgue and impounded the truck. A relative
of the deceased said the accident happened because the truck driver was unable
to stop the vehicle in time. Daily Times
