IJT students to move SC against MQM
LAHORE, Sept 19: The Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) nazim of Punjab University
(PU) said on Tuesday that about 6,000 students would file a petition in the
Supreme Court against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for allegedly killing
12 IJT students in Karachi. The rivalry between the IJT and MQM has poured into
Punjab after the killings.
In a press statement, the nazim said the IJT would
protest against the MQM outside the President's House. IJT students would also
march on The Mall in October against MQM's terrorism in Karachi, he added. He
said, "The MQM is an ally of the government and President Pervez Musharraf is
its patron-in-chief." IJT information secretary Hafiz Usman said the IJT would
hold press conferences at its divisional headquarters on September 20 and rally
against the MQM on September 25. He said a white paper on the MQM's activities
had been given to the people.
Ali Buttar, an official of MQM's Punjab
information cell, said the MQM would 'remove the existence' of the IJT and the
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) from the Punjab. The party would initiate a campaign
against the dual standards of the IJT and JI, he added. He said the MQM would
launch the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO) in the PU to
counter the IJT. Buttar said the MQM would nominate its candidates against JI's
candidates in the city. He said the IJT was afraid of MQM's popularity and had
tried to spoil MQM's image in the province. Daily Times
