PU honoured its IDPs relief camp team
Lahore: Punjab University arranged a special ceremony and an Iftar dinner in the honour of doctors, faculty members, students and donors, who have served at PU Medical & Relief Camp established at Swabi for the welfare of Swat, Malakand and Buner affectees.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the ceremony. The vice-chancellor, Relief Committee Chairman Dr Haris Rashid and other members of the committee distributed shields and certificates among the doctors, faculty members, students and donors.

Speaking on the occasion, VC Dr Mujahid Kamran highly appreciated the services of Relief Committee chairman, members, doctors, faculty members and students and said their services had promoted positive image of not only Punjab University but Punjab province among the affectees and it also helped promoting national solidarity.

The vice-chancellor said when he visited the camp, IDPs told him that PU doctors and teachers were treating them very politely and had been providing the free medicines, edibles and clothes. He said to spare some time to help humanity out of your busy routine life was the great passion.

He said PU would also provide scholarship to the children of Swat and also construct a school for girls in the area. Dr Haris Rashid thanked the donors who donated to PU Relief Fund regarding IERIs charity week to raise funds for IDPs. He also comprehended the services of Dr Zia Ullah (late).

Members of relief committee, Chief Medical Officer Dr Farasat Ali Syed, Pharmacist Iftikhar Ahmad Chaudhry, Camp Incharge Dr Abul Wafa, Resident Officer Shahid Gull, Prof Dr Jamshaid Ahmad, Major Taif-ur-Rehman and Khalid Khan were also present on the occasion. F.P Report

LHC orders standard fees for self-finance medical students
Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has allowed medical students enrolled under the self-finance scheme to deposit fees according to the standard fee structure, a private TV channel reported on Friday.

A two-member bench of the LHC comprising Justice M Bilal Khan and Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman issued the order. On the inter-court appeal of parents action committee's chairman Safdar Jameel, the court issued notice to the government and the petitioners for October 6.

The petitioners stated that medical colleges continued demanding extra money from the students enrolled under the self-finance scheme even though the government had annulled the scheme. They said the students were not allowed to take classes or sit in the exams for not paying the extra money. Daily times

LCWU awards PhD degrees
Lahore: Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has awarded first ever PhD degree to its two assistant professors of Faculty of Science. According to a notification issued by the LCWU on Friday, Mrs Tahira Aziz Mughal, Assistant Professor Chemistry, has been awarded PhD degree on completion of her thesis on "Ethno Medical Studies of Flora of southern Punjab and isolation of biological active principal " under supervision of Prof Dr. Ismat Naeem.

Mrs Rehana Zia, Assistant Prof Physics has been awarded PhD degree on completion of her thesis on " Preparation and characterization of thin film polycrystalline solar cells" under supervision of Dr Farhat Saleemi,Dean of Engineering and Technology and Dr Shehzad Naseem.

NESPAK employees to get bonus
Lahore: All the eligible grade 1 to 17 employees of NESPAK will be paid bonus equal to one and half month basic pay, while those in grade 18 and above will get one month basic pay as bonus for the year 2008-2009. NESPAK had already increased 15 to 20 % of basic pay as adhoc relief to its employees. APP
