KMLE Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialty Exam 2026
KMLE Obs and Gyn Exam Quick Summary
The KMLE (Kuwait Medical Licensing Examination) Obstetrics and Gynecology exam is a Prometric computer-based test of 150 MCQs in 170 minutes, with a 10 minute break. The passing mark is 65% for Registrar level and 70% for senior levels, and you get 3 attempts with at least 6 weeks between them.
Doctors who want to work in Obs and Gyn under the Kuwait Ministry of Health (MOH) sit a specialty paper set by the MOH Medical Licensing Department and delivered by Prometric. It is a single paper of clinical scenarios, and every section comes from obstetrics, gynecology or the patient safety and ethics that go with them. This page covers the format, the official blueprint section by section, the passing score by level and a practical way to prepare. For the general KMLE route and the GP paper, see our KMLE exam format guide.
What is the KMLE Obstetrics and Gynecology exam format?
| Item | KMLE Obs and Gyn exam |
|---|---|
| Questions | 150 multiple choice questions, single best answer |
| Time | 170 minutes, including a 10 minute break |
| Delivery | Computer-based, at Prometric test centres worldwide |
| Passing score | Registrar 65%, senior levels 70% |
| Attempts | 3, at least 6 weeks apart |
| Booking | Through Prometric after the MOH Kuwait licensing department accepts your application |
That works out to a little over a minute per question. The blueprint notes that its content, percentages and attempt limits can change after departmental review, so check the current version on the Prometric Kuwait MOH page before you book.
Which levels sit the KMLE Obs and Gyn exam?
MOH Kuwait grades doctors by level. Prometric lists two groups of exams:
You do not choose your level yourself. The MOH Kuwait Medical Licensing Department decides it from your postgraduate qualification and experience when it reviews your file on the MOH Kuwait online licensing portal. If your qualification is a diploma rather than a full specialty degree, ask the department which level it maps to before you start preparing, because the pass mark depends on it.
What is KMLE Obstetrics and Gynecology exam Syllabus?
The Prometric blueprint gives the number of questions in each section. This is where your marks come from:
| Section | Questions | Share (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| General Obstetrics | 36 | 24% |
| General Gynecology | 31 | 21% |
| Maternal-Fetal Medicine | 15 | 10% |
| Gynecologic Oncology | 15 | 10% |
| Women's Health (e.g., menopause, breast health) | 14 | 9% |
| Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility | 12 | 8% |
| Urogynecology & Pelvic Floor Disorders | 8 | 5% |
| Professionalism and Ethics | 8 | 5% |
| Perioperative Management | 7 | 5% |
| Patient Safety | 4 | 3% |
| Total | 150 | 100% |
General obstetrics and general gynecology together make up nearly half the paper. Get those solid first. The 12 questions on patient safety and ethics are easy marks that many candidates leave to the last week, and then lose.
What is KMLE Obs & Gyn exam Passing Score?
The passing score varies with the level you apply for: 65% for Registrar and 70% for the senior levels (Senior Registrar and above). On 150 questions, that means roughly 98 correct answers for a Registrar and 105 for a senior candidate. You have 3 attempts, and each new attempt must be at least 6 weeks after the previous one, which gives you time to work on the sections where you were weak.
Which books does the KMLE Obs and Gyn blueprint recommend?
The blueprint lists these references. Its editions are old, so use the latest edition of each.
How to prepare for the KMLE Obs and Gyn exam?
How to find KMLE Obs & Gyn Past Questions?
The exact Kuwait Obs & Gyn past questions are not published, and anyone selling "real papers" is selling recalls at best. What you can use are Obs & Gyn specialty recall questions, created by Interface Medical Education and mapped to the blueprint sections above.

Question 1: Rhesus prophylaxis
A 30-year-old woman, gravida 2 para 1, is RhD negative and was not sensitised at booking. She received routine antenatal anti-D prophylaxis (1500 IU) at 28 weeks. At 31 weeks she falls onto her abdomen and has a small amount of vaginal bleeding. She is stable, the uterus is soft and non-tender, and the CTG is normal. What is the most appropriate next step regarding anti-D?
A) No further anti-D, because the 28-week dose covers her until delivery
B) Give anti-D immunoglobulin within 72 hours and send a Kleihauer test to size the fetomaternal haemorrhage
C) Check the antibody screen and give anti-D only if no anti-D antibodies are detected
D) Withhold anti-D and give the full dose after delivery if the baby is RhD positive
Correct answer: B) Give anti-D immunoglobulin within 72 hours and send a Kleihauer test to size the fetomaternal haemorrhage
Abdominal trauma is a potentially sensitising event, and anti-D must be given for each such event even if routine antenatal prophylaxis has already been given. After 20 weeks, give anti-D (at least 500 IU in UK practice) within 72 hours and measure the bleed with a Kleihauer test or flow cytometry; a larger haemorrhage needs more anti-D. Option C is a trap: anti-D from the 28-week injection is still detectable and cannot be told apart from immune anti-D, so a positive screen is not a reason to withhold it.
Question 2: Urogynecology
A 44-year-old woman, para 3, has had urine leakage for a year when she coughs, laughs or runs. She has no urgency, frequency or nocturia. Urinalysis is negative, post-void residual volume is normal, there is no significant prolapse, and leakage is seen on coughing during examination. Her BMI is 26 kg/m2. What is the most appropriate first-line management?
A) Retropubic mid-urethral sling
B) Supervised pelvic floor muscle training for at least 3 months
C) Oral oxybutynin
D) Oral duloxetine
Correct answer: B) Supervised pelvic floor muscle training for at least 3 months
This is stress urinary incontinence. First-line treatment is a supervised programme of pelvic floor muscle training lasting at least 3 months, with lifestyle advice. Surgery such as a mid-urethral sling is considered only if conservative treatment fails. Antimuscarinics like oxybutynin treat overactive bladder, not stress incontinence, and duloxetine is not a routine first-line option.
