MOH UAE General Practitioner (GP) Exam 2026: Eligibility & Application Guide

MOH GP Exam Quick Summary

The MOH UAE (MOHAP) General Practitioner exam is a Prometric computer-based MCQ test. You take it if you want a Ministry of Health and Prevention licence, mainly for the Northern Emirates and federal facilities. Foreign-trained GPs need a recognised medical degree, a completed internship and at least two years of clinical experience after internship. The result is Pass or Fail with a 60% minimum, and you get three attempts at most.

The UAE has three main health licensing authorities: the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) for Dubai, the Department of Health (DOH) for Abu Dhabi, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) for the Northern Emirates. Which emirates does the MOH (MOHAP) GP licence cover?

Note: in July 2025 the Sharjah Executive Council issued a decision regulating licensing of health professionals by the Sharjah Health Authority for local government and private facilities in Sharjah. If your job offer is in Sharjah, confirm with your employer which authority will issue your licence.

What is the eligibility criteria for the MOH GP exam?

MOHAP checks every applicant against the UAE Unified Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR). For a GP, this is what they look for:

  • Recognised degree: a basic medical degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) from a recognised university, accredited in the home country.
  • Internship: a completed internship/house job after graduation.
  • Clinical experience: foreign-trained GPs need at least two years of clinical experience after internship. Experience is counted from the date of your practising licence.
  • Good standing: a Good Standing Certificate from the health authority that issued your licence, dated within the last six months.
  • No long gap in practice: applicants with an interruption in practice beyond the limit set by MOHAP (currently stated as two years on MOHAP's evaluation service page) are not accepted.
  • Exam where required: the MOHAP evaluation officer decides whether you must sit the Prometric online exam; exemptions apply only as defined in the PQR (see MOH exam exemptions).
  • No exceptions: MOHAP states that essential requirements are applied without exemptions, and applicants who do not meet them will not be accepted.

MOH GP exam application guide: step by step

STEP 1
Check your eligibility
Confirm you meet the degree, internship, experience and good-standing requirements above.
STEP 2
Create your UAE Pass and MOHAP accounts
Set up a UAE Pass account and sign in to the MOHAP online services portal.
STEP 3
Apply for Health Professional Evaluation
Upload your degree, transcripts, internship and experience certificates, licence, good standing certificate and passport, and pay the evaluation fee (AED 500 for physicians, per MOHAP). MOHAP lists 5 working days for the evaluation review.
STEP 4
Complete DataFlow verification
Pay the DataFlow fee and complete the DataFlow primary source verification (PSV); a positive report is required.
STEP 5
Book and sit the Prometric exam
Once approved for the exam, schedule your MOHAP GP exam at a Prometric centre; the current fee is shown at booking. See how to register for the MOHAP exam.
STEP 6
Receive your evaluation certificate and get licensed

How many attempts are allowed for the MOH GP exam?

MOHAP allows a maximum of three attempts per category. MOHAP's evaluation service says a fourth MOHAP attempt is not allowed. If you have used all three, you may still sit the exam through DHA or DOH, under their own rules. One thing that catches people out: Prometric counts a cancelled or no-show appointment as one of the three attempts, so be careful when you reschedule. What is the MOH GP exam passing score and how are results shown?

According to MOHAP, Prometric results are generated automatically and shown as Pass or Fail, with a minimum passing score of 60%. Individual questions and answers are not disclosed. See our MOH UAE Prometric result guide.

Question 1: Respiratory Medicine

A 32-year-old previously healthy man presents with 3 days of fever, productive cough and right-sided pleuritic chest pain. He is alert and oriented; respiratory rate 20/min, blood pressure 124/78 mmHg, SpO2 96% on room air. Chest X-ray shows right lower lobe consolidation and blood urea is normal. He has no drug allergies and no recent antibiotic use. What is the most appropriate management?

A) Admit for IV ceftriaxone plus azithromycin
B) Oral amoxicillin and outpatient follow-up
C) Oral levofloxacin and outpatient follow-up
D) Oral oseltamivir only

Correct answer: B) Oral amoxicillin and outpatient follow-up

His CURB-65 score is 0 (no confusion, normal urea, RR <30, normal BP, age <65), so he can be treated at home. For a healthy adult without comorbidities or recent antibiotics, oral amoxicillin is first line; respiratory fluoroquinolones are reserved for patients with comorbidities or allergy, and IV therapy with admission is for higher-severity scores.

Question 2: Emergency Medicine

A 25-year-old woman develops generalised urticaria, lip swelling, wheeze and dizziness 10 minutes after eating peanuts at a restaurant. Blood pressure is 82/50 mmHg and pulse 124/min. What is the most appropriate immediate treatment?

A) IV chlorphenamine 10 mg
B) IV hydrocortisone 200 mg
C) IM adrenaline 0.5 mg (0.5 mL of 1 mg/mL) into the anterolateral thigh
D) Nebulised salbutamol 5 mg

This is anaphylaxis (skin/mucosal signs with airway and circulatory involvement after allergen exposure). Intramuscular adrenaline is the first-line, life-saving treatment and can be repeated after 5 minutes if there is no improvement. Antihistamines, steroids and bronchodilators are adjuncts only and must never delay adrenaline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for the MOH GP exam with only a one-year internship/house job?

Not as a foreign-trained GP. MOHAP requires at least two years of clinical experience after completing your internship, counted from the date of your practising licence. Internship time itself does not count toward these two years.

Is the MOH exam the same as the DHA exam for working in Dubai?

No. Dubai is licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Abu Dhabi by the Department of Health (DOH); MOHAP licenses the Northern Emirates and federal facilities. Each authority has its own application, although a valid DHA or DOH licence can be transferred to MOHAP through the MOHAP portal.

Where can I take the MOH GP exam, and are there fixed exam dates?

The MOH exam is a Prometric computer-based test delivered at Prometric test centres, including centres outside the UAE. There are no fixed annual registration dates. Once MOHAP approves you for the exam, you choose an available date and centre using Prometric's test-centre locator.

I work outside my home country. How are my documents verified?

MOHAP uses DataFlow primary source verification, which checks your degree, internship, licences and experience directly with the institutions and authorities that issued them, wherever they are. Upload unprotected copies of any previous DataFlow reports, and provide legal translations for non-English documents.

What if I have a long gap in clinical practice?

MOHAP does not accept applicants whose interruption in practice exceeds its stated limit (two years on MOHAP's evaluation service page). If you have a longer gap, you would generally need to return to clinical practice and rebuild recent experience before applying. Confirm your situation with MOHAP before you pay any fees.

What is the passing score for the MOH UAE GP exam?

MOHAP states that Prometric results are shown as Pass or Fail with a minimum passing score of 60%. Question-level feedback is not provided, and a maximum of three attempts is allowed.
