MOHAP Prometric VS DOH Pearson VUE Exam 2026: Key Differences

MOHAP vs DOH Exam Quick Summary

Both are computer-based MCQ licensing exams, but they belong to different regulators. The MOHAP exam is delivered by Prometric, needs 60% to pass and licenses you for the Northern Emirates and federal facilities. The DOH exam is delivered by Pearson VUE, is booked through TAMM, is graded PASS or FAIL against a cut score set by DOH, and licenses you for Abu Dhabi. Your attempts are counted across both: 3 in total under the Unified PQR.

The Prometric MOHAP (Ministry of Health and Prevention) exam and the DOH (Department of Health) Abu Dhabi Pearson VUE exam test the same thing in principle: whether you are safe to practise at the title you applied for. The clinical content overlaps heavily. The differences are in who runs the exam, how you get to it, how it is scored and where the licence lets you work. That is what this page compares, so you can choose the right authority before you spend money on DataFlow and booking fees.

Two things in that table catch people out. First, the DOH oral route: GPs always sit the CBT, but specialists and consultants outside eight specialties (Anesthesia, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, ENT, General Surgery and Obs and Gyn) sit an oral exam of 45 to 60 minutes instead. MOHAP's published service pages list no oral exam. Second, the MOHAP question count is not official, so do not plan your timing around an exact number. How is the route to each exam different?

MOHAP route
Submit the Health Professional Evaluation on the MOHAP portal. MOHAP reviews it in about 5 working days, then sends a DataFlow payment link. After a positive DataFlow report you get approval to book Prometric. Full steps: how to register for the MOHAP exam.
DOH route
Create your application on TAMM, complete DataFlow for DOH, then book the exam from TAMM, which takes you to Pearson VUE. You must sit within the approval window. Full steps: DOH exam registration.

DataFlow is needed for both, but each authority wants a report addressed to it. If you have already verified for one, ask DataFlow about a report transfer rather than starting again. Our comparison of the MOHAP DataFlow process vs DHA and DOH sets the two side by side.

Which exam is easier, MOHAP or DOH?

Neither authority publishes pass rates, so nobody can give you a fair number. From what our candidates report, the clinical level is similar. The DOH GP paper is a little longer and has a known length, which makes timing practice easier. MOHAP has a published 60% mark, which some people find reassuring. In practice the better question is where you want to work. A licence from either can later be recognised by the other authorities without a new exam, as long as you transfer in the same title while the licence is valid. Can I sit both exams?

You can apply to both, but think before you do. Under the Unified PQR, failed attempts are counted across DOH, DHA and MOHAP together. Sitting two authorities back to back does not give you two separate sets of chances. Most candidates pick the emirate where they have a job offer or the best prospects, pass there, and transfer later if needed. How should I prepare for each?

Use the same clinical base for both: internal medicine, pediatrics, obs and gyn, surgery and emergency care for GPs, or your own specialty for specialist titles. Then switch to MCQs in the format you will face. For MOHAP, practise with the MOH UAE GP QBank and browse other titles on the MOH UAE exam page. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main difference between the MOHAP and DOH exams?

MOHAP licenses you for the Northern Emirates and federal facilities and uses Prometric with a 60% pass mark. DOH licenses you for Abu Dhabi, uses Pearson VUE booked through TAMM, and reports PASS or FAIL against its own cut score. The clinical content is similar.

Do both exams have the same number of questions?

No. DOH publishes its format: 120 MCQs in 2.5 hours for GPs, 100 MCQs in 2 hours for specialists in eight specialties, and 150 MCQs in 3 hours for general dentists. MOHAP does not publish a question count; candidates commonly report 100 to 150 MCQs in 2 to 3 hours.

If I fail MOHAP, can I try DOH with fresh attempts?

No. The Unified PQR counts attempts across DOH, DHA and MOHAP: 3 in total, then possibly one last attempt with a different authority. A fail at one authority stays on your record at the others.

Can I use a MOHAP licence to work in Abu Dhabi?

Not directly, but DOH recognises a valid MOHAP licence in the same title (or one expired or cancelled within 6 months) and waives its exam. You still apply to DOH through TAMM with a DataFlow report addressed to DOH.

Is there an oral exam in MOHAP or DOH?

DOH uses an oral exam of 45 to 60 minutes for specialist and consultant titles outside its eight CBT specialties. MOHAP's published service pages list no oral exam; surgical specialties submit a surgical record instead.

Team Interface: MOHAP counts experience from the date of your licence and does not accept a gap of more than 2 years, so a one-year gap is within the limit if you explain it. Team Interface: Where your country has no licensing body for your profession, DataFlow and MOHAP usually accept an official letter confirming that no licence is required, for example from the relevant authority or your employer.
