What are Registration Requirements for MOHAP GPs in 2026?

MOHAP GP Registration Quick Summary

To register with MOHAP as a General Practitioner you need a recognised medical degree, at least 2 years of licensed clinical experience after internship, no gap in practice of more than 2 years and a good standing certificate dated within 6 months. You register through the Healthcare Professional Evaluation service (AED 500), not the licence service; the licence and its yearly renewal (AED 100 plus AED 3,000 in a private facility) are requested by your employer.

The registration process for a GP (General Practitioner) with MOHAP (Ministry of Health and Prevention) involves meeting the eligibility criteria, passing the evaluation and, if required, the exam, and then being licensed through a facility. What are the MOHAP registration requirements for GPs?

Medical degree
MBBS or an equivalent primary medical degree, accredited in the country that awarded it, plus a completed internship.
2 years of experience
Non-UAE GPs need at least 2 years of clinical experience after internship. MOHAP counts it from the date your licence was issued, and training does not replace it.
No long gap
No break in practice of more than 2 years when you apply. Longer gaps need the steps in the MOHAP clinical gap policy.
Good standing and DataFlow
A good standing certificate dated within the last 6 months, and a positive DataFlow report on your degree, experience and licence.

Medical evaluation or medical licence: which option should a GP choose?

Choose the evaluation. On the MOHAP website and smart app the service a new GP needs is the Healthcare Professional Evaluation. You log in with UAE PASS, upload your documents and pay AED 500. MOHAP reviews the request in about 5 working days, sends the DataFlow payment link, and after a positive report you sit the Prometric exam or get an exemption. The result is the evaluation certificate.

The licence service (licensing of a doctor) is not for you to start. It is requested by a licensed medical facility after you accept its work invitation, and it needs a valid MOHAP evaluation first. If you pick the licence option on your own, you will be stuck at the first screen.

How to renew MOHAP GP license?

MOHAP's renewal service for doctors covers GPs, dentists, specialists and consultants. As with the first licence, the facility you work for applies, not you. The steps:

  • The facility logs in to the MOHAP website or smart app with UAE PASS and selects renewal of a licence to practise as a doctor.
  • It uploads your documents: a recent CME record in the same licensing field (MOHAP's form lists the figure 40), valid insurance against medical faults, valid labour card, Emirates ID and visa copy, and a recent medical report if you are over 60.
  • If the requirements are met, the application is approved and the fee is paid online.
  • The renewed licence is issued electronically, emailed, and can be downloaded from the MOHAP website or app.

Fees depend on the sector: in a private facility AED 100 application plus AED 3,000 renewal; in a semi-government facility AED 100; in a government facility no fee. MOHAP describes the service as instant renewal. An older version of this page said the candidate could renew and quoted "approximately AED 3000"; the current MOHAP service is facility led and the full private sector cost is AED 3,100.

Practical point from experience: CME is the item that delays most renewals. Log your hours through the year, not in the last month.

Which option should a GP select to register for the MOHAP exam?

Select the Healthcare Professional Evaluation on the MOHAP website or smart app (UAE PASS login). The licence service is requested by the hiring facility after you pass and accept a job offer, so it is not the starting point.

How much experience does a GP need for MOHAP registration?

At least 2 years of clinical experience after internship for non-UAE GPs, counted from the date your licence was issued. Internship and training do not count towards it, and there should be no gap in practice of more than 2 years.

How much does MOHAP GP licence renewal cost?

In a private facility, AED 100 application plus AED 3,000 renewal fee. In a semi-government facility the fee is AED 100, and in a government facility renewal is free. The facility applies and pays online.

What documents are needed to renew a MOHAP GP licence?

Can I register as a GP with MOHAP after a long career break?

MOHAP does not accept a gap in practice of more than 2 years at evaluation. With a longer gap you usually need a period of supervised or refresher practice under the PQR gap rules before you apply; check the gap policy and confirm with MOHAP.

MOHAP asks surgical specialties for a surgical record, which in practice is a list of the procedures you performed, signed and stamped by the hospital(s) where you did them. If CPSP kept your residency logbook, ask them for a certified copy, and have your current hospital certify your recent procedures.
