MOHAP Dermatology Exam Quick Summary
The MOHAP Dermatology exam is a Prometric computer-based MCQ exam for dermatologists who want to work in the emirates MOHAP licenses, marked Pass or Fail with a 60% minimum and a maximum of 3 attempts. Questions are clinical scenarios across general, paediatric and procedural dermatology, skin infections and STIs. There is no automatic exemption list: you attach your exemption documents to the evaluation and MOHAP decides under the PQR, and a valid DHA or DOH licence (or one expired for less than 6 months) can be used to transfer without the exam.
The MOHAP (Ministry of Health and Prevention) Dermatology specialty exam is required for dermatologists who want to work in Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain, unless MOHAP exempts them. What questions come in the MOHAP UAE exam in dermatology?
MOHAP does not publish a dermatology blueprint. From candidate feedback, the questions follow a standard dermatology residency curriculum and test applied judgement rather than rare eponyms. Most stems describe a patient and a lesion and ask for the diagnosis, the best investigation or the first-line treatment.

What is MOHAP Dermatology exemption criteria?
Older guides, including the earlier version of this page, gave a fixed list of qualifications that exempt you. MOHAP does not work that way. There is no list you can tick in advance. In practice:
- You attach exemption documents to your Health Professional Evaluation, for example an active licence from a recognised regulator or a board certificate. MOHAP describes these as exemption documents "as per PQR or DHA eligibility".
- The evaluation officer decides if you still need the Prometric exam, using the PQR licensure recognition and exam equivalency rules. Nobody outside MOHAP can confirm this beforehand.
- Moving from DHA or DOH: a valid Dubai or Abu Dhabi dermatology licence can be transferred. If it lapsed, it must not have been expired for more than 6 months; beyond that you sit the MOHAP exam.
- An exemption removes the exam only. DataFlow, the experience rule for your tier, a Good Standing Certificate within 6 months and the 2-year practice gap limit still apply.
Dermatologists most often ask about the American Board of Dermatology, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the UK CCT in dermatology, German Facharzt, Australian or New Zealand fellowship and the Arab or Saudi boards. These can place you in a higher PQR tier, which affects the experience you need, but a qualification that gives you the Specialist title is not by itself an exam exemption. Is the dermatology exam the same at DHA and DOH?
The content is similar, but the regulators differ. DHA eligibility for dermatologists is on who is eligible for the DHA Dermatology exam, and the DOH written exam on DOH/HAAD Dermatology written examination. Examination shows excoriated papules on the wrists, finger webs, waist and genitals, with a few short grey burrows in the finger webs. The face is spared. Which is the most appropriate management?

Nocturnal itch, burrows in the finger webs and itchy family members point to scabies. Treatment fails unless every close contact is treated on the same day, even without symptoms, and the application is repeated after 7 days to kill mites that hatch from eggs. Itch can last 2 to 4 weeks after successful treatment and does not by itself mean failure. Antihistamines and steroids only mask the infestation.
Question 2: Drug reaction prevention

HLA-B*15:02 is strongly associated with carbamazepine-induced SJS and TEN in people of Han Chinese, Thai, Malaysian and other Southeast Asian ancestry, and guidelines advise testing before starting the drug and avoiding it if the allele is present. HLA-B*57:01 predicts abacavir hypersensitivity, HLA-B*58:01 predicts allopurinol-induced severe cutaneous reactions, and TPMT guides azathioprine dosing.

Sexually transmitted infections and genital skin disease are part of dermatology and venereology and do appear. Andrology topics such as male infertility are not usually reported as a separate area. MOHAP does not publish a blueprint, so revise STIs with the rest of the curriculum.
Is there an oral exam for MOHAP dermatology?
