DHA Prometric Exam Sample Questions (MCQs) 2026 for Doctors, Nurses & Pharmacists
DHA Exam Questions Quick Summary
The DHA Prometric exam is a computer-based test (CBT) of multiple-choice questions, mostly clinical scenarios, taken at a Prometric test centre. The DHA CBT guideline lists the General Practice exam as 150 MCQs in 3 hours; DHA reports only Pass or Fail in your Sheryan account and does not publish a fixed pass percentage in its assessment manual.
Doctors, dentists, nurses and allied health professionals preparing for the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licensing exam need practice questions that match the real exam's syllabus, style and difficulty. Memorising facts is not enough, because most questions are clinical scenarios. Below I explain how DHA Prometric questions are set out, give four original sample MCQs with answers, and links to our DHA exam sample questions and MCQs for each specialty. Our question banks are built from recall-based, exam-pattern MCQs reviewed against current clinical guidelines.

What type of questions appear in the DHA Prometric exam?
DHA's written assessment is a computer-based test (CBT) made up of multiple-choice questions, delivered by Prometric. Most questions are short clinical vignettes: a patient's history, examination and investigation findings, followed by a question asking for the most likely diagnosis, the best next step, or the most appropriate treatment. You choose one best option for each question. The exact content, number of questions and pass mark depend on your professional category and specialty.
DHA exam question format: number of questions and time
The figures below are taken from DHA's Computer Based Testing (CBT) guideline (updated May 2026). DHA notes it may change exam content, format or pass scores, so always confirm your own exam details in your Sheryan account before booking.
| DHA exam | Questions | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| General Practice (GP) | 150 MCQs | 3 hours |
| Internal Medicine, Obs & Gynae, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine | 150 MCQs | 3 hours |
| Pediatrics | 150 MCQs | 3 hours |
| General Surgery, Dermatology | 150 MCQs | 3 hours |
| General Dentist | 150 MCQs | 3 hours |
| Registered Nurse | 150 MCQs | 3 hours |

For more detail see DHA exam passing score, duration and total questions and the DHA exam attempts rules.
Is there negative marking in the DHA exam?
No. DHA calculates the result from the number of correct answers, weighted by exam domain, so a wrong answer does not cost you marks. Answer every question within the time limit; an educated guess is always better than leaving a question blank.
Are DHA questions repeated in real exams?
Candidates often report seeing familiar clinical scenarios, but the wording, patient details or answer options are usually changed. DHA and Prometric do not publish past papers, so memorising answers is not a reliable strategy. Practise with exam-style MCQs that teach the reasoning behind each answer, so you can handle a changed version of the same scenario.

Question 1: Internal Medicine
A 58-year-old man with type 2 diabetes attends for review. He takes metformin and the maximum tolerated dose of lisinopril. His HbA1c is 7.6%, blood pressure 132/80 mmHg, eGFR 45 mL/min/1.73 m² and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio 350 mg/g. Which of the following is the most appropriate medication to add?
A) Glipizide
B) Pioglitazone
C) Empagliflozin
D) Sitagliptin
Correct answer: C) Empagliflozin
In type 2 diabetes with chronic kidney disease (eGFR ≥20) and albuminuria, current KDIGO and ADA guidance recommends adding an SGLT2 inhibitor on top of an ACE inhibitor or ARB, because it slows CKD progression and reduces cardiovascular events independent of its glucose-lowering effect.
Question 2: Emergency Medicine
A 24-year-old woman is stung by a bee. Within ten minutes she develops generalised urticaria, lip swelling, wheeze and a blood pressure of 80/50 mmHg. Which of the following is the most appropriate first treatment?
A) Intravenous chlorphenamine
B) Intramuscular adrenaline 0.5 mg (1 mg/mL) into the anterolateral thigh
C) Intravenous hydrocortisone
D) Nebulised salbutamol
Correct answer: B) Intramuscular adrenaline 0.5 mg (1 mg/mL) into the anterolateral thigh
This is anaphylaxis (airway/breathing and circulation involvement after an allergen). IM adrenaline is the first-line treatment, repeated after 5 minutes if needed; antihistamines and corticosteroids are not first-line and must never delay adrenaline.
Question 3: Pediatrics
An 18-month-old boy with a temperature of 39.2°C has a generalised tonic-clonic seizure lasting 3 minutes. Thirty minutes later he is alert and playful, with no neck stiffness and a normal neurological examination. His vaccinations are up to date. Which of the following is the most appropriate next step?
A) Electroencephalogram (EEG)
B) CT scan of the head
C) Lumbar puncture
D) Look for the source of fever and reassure the parents
Correct answer: D) Look for the source of fever and reassure the parents
This is a simple febrile seizure (generalised, under 15 minutes, child aged 6 to 60 months, full recovery). EEG, neuroimaging and routine lumbar puncture are not indicated in a well, fully immunised child; management is to identify the cause of fever and educate the parents.
Question 4: Obstetrics & Gynaecology
A 26-year-old primigravida at 32 weeks' gestation presents with a severe headache. Her blood pressure is 164/112 mmHg on two readings 15 minutes apart, and urine dipstick shows 2+ protein. In addition to starting antihypertensive treatment, which of the following is the most appropriate next step?
A) Oral nifedipine and outpatient review in one week
B) Intravenous magnesium sulfate
C) Immediate caesarean section before stabilisation
D) Intravenous phenytoin
Correct answer: B) Intravenous magnesium sulfate
Pre-eclampsia with severe features (severe-range blood pressure and headache) needs admission, blood pressure control and IV magnesium sulfate to prevent eclampsia; magnesium is superior to phenytoin and diazepam. The mother is stabilised first, antenatal corticosteroids are given at this gestation, and timing of delivery is then planned.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many questions are in the DHA Prometric exam?
According to DHA's CBT guideline, the General Practice exam and most specialist exams have 150 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 3 hours. Some exams, such as consultant-level and certain privilege exams, have 100 or fewer questions. Check the exact details for your category in Sheryan before booking.
What is the passing score for the DHA exam?
DHA reports only Pass or Fail and does not share your score. Its assessment manual does not publish a fixed pass percentage, so percentages quoted online should be treated as unofficial. See our DHA passing score guide.
Does DHA or Prometric provide official past papers or sample questions?
No. DHA publishes the syllabus and references for each exam, but neither DHA nor Prometric releases past papers, and Prometric states it does not sell preparation content. Candidates prepare with standard textbooks and independent exam-style question banks.
How many times can I take the DHA exam if I fail?
DHA allows a total of three attempts, and there is no fixed waiting time between attempts apart from seat availability. After three failed attempts, further attempts are restricted; DHA's assessment manual allows new attempts only through limited routes, such as gaining an additional recognised qualification or two years of licensed clinical experience.
Are nurses, pharmacists and allied health staff tested with the same questions as doctors?
No. Each professional category and specialty has its own exam with its own syllabus, number of questions and pass mark. Nurses, pharmacists, technicians and therapists should prepare from the syllabus for their own DHA category.
When will I get my DHA exam result?
DHA uploads the CBT result to your Sheryan account within 2 working days of the exam. The letter Prometric gives you at the test centre does not show your result. See our DHA exam result guide for the steps.
